A Word from the Pastor

 My Dear New Friends,

Betsy and I thank you for a wonderful experience  last weekend. The reception confirmed what the Search Committee has been telling us: the First Baptist congregation is a warm and wonderful group of loving people. Our entire family instantly felt at home in Manning.

About Sunday, all we can say is WOW! - what a worship experience. We felt the presence of God’s Spirit from the moment the service began. The music was great and we were impressed with how enthusiastically everyone participated. You folks sang out with joy. When I got up to preach it just felt “right” to be there with you, preaching to a receptive church ready and hungry to hear God’s Word from scripture.

After church your Search Committee chair, Doug Strickland, informed us of the vote. It was both overwhelming and humbling. To the vote we say, “Yes!” We accept with joy and gratitude the call to come and serve the First Baptist Manning family.

My first Sunday as your new pastor will be July 16. We are excited about beginning with you. I am praying for you every day already and will never stop doing so. I look forward to visiting with each of you and getting to know you better. And I look forward to our journey together into the future God has prepared for our church.

God bless you all,

Thank you for visiting with us.  We hope you will find this site informative, interesting and inspirational.  Come back often for the latest news, pictures and announcements.  Please join us for worship and Bible study on Sundays and Wednesdays.

We exist to glorify God by being and making discples who worship, witness, serve, share, grow, pray!

FBC has a simple mission. It is called the Great Commission and found in Matthew 28:18-20. Several ways to accomplish this mission is by fishing and farming in faith.

Farming and fishing have been and still are very important to the people who live in and around Manning.  Jesus often used everyday events like fishing and farming to teach eternal truths.

Jesus used the Parable of the Farmer sowing his seed to tell Christians that we are to sow, scatter, plant and distribute the Word of God in any and every way so that people may hear the Good News. (Luke 8:5-15)  We pray for their hearts to be receptive like good soil so that the seed may come alive, take root and produce fruit.  This church desires for people to hear the Good News and receive God’s gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ and join God’s forever family.

Fishing was very important in Bible times for the people who lived near the Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.  Jesus told his disciples to, “Come, follow me, and I will send you out to fish for people.” (Mark 1:17) His command is still true today for those who follow Him.  The church is to be about His business of fishing for people so that they may hear, respond, receive and become His children.

So, we are Farming and Fishing in Faith so that God will accomplish His will through First Baptist Church of Manning.

We voluntarily cooperate with and financially support the Santee Baptist Association, the South Carolina Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.
